InfuseSA in the Community: Chismosas Cantina & Event Venue

Chismosas owner Danielle Chismosas and InfuseSA President Mimi Planas

This week we’d like to showcase Chismosas Cantina & Event Venue on Blanco between Wurzbach Parkway and Bitters. It’s a multi-dimensional establishment with a bar area and a restaurant. Those wings are split down the middle by an outdoor foyer.

It’s owner is Danielle Braman, aka “La Chismosa,” a nickname given to her by a friend. A San Antonio native with Refugio roots, she was a stay-at-home mom to her five kids. While her son was earning a masters degree, her other kids started gravitating toward the restaurant industry once they were old enough to work.

As is so often the case with entrepreneurs/small businessmen, that gave her an idea: open her own restaurant where they can work, and eventually take over some day. A family business was born.

Also key to a successful business is a niche, and Chismosas has it. Though they open at 4 p.m. for dining Tuesday through Saturday, their closing time is negotiable. If it’s a busy, rollicking night, they’ll stay open until the party dies down. They might even extend their hours on the front-end if they weren’t facing the same staffing shortages so many other businesses are currently confronted with.

Where they really stand out however, is their 24/7 catering service for all three meals of the day. To add a little flair to the fun, they have an open mic night on Wednesdays with Gabe Farias, and karaoke on Fridays at 9. Their layout is conducive to your next event.

If you have one of those in the not-too-distant future, you’re looking for a casual Tex-Mex dining experience (made by Danielle and her daughter Shaunessi from their own recipes), or just want to unwind for Happy Hour, give them a try.
