Unintended Consequences: The Area of Future Dog Attacks?
We were just wondering if animal attacks were down lately, or if the press got bored of them. Now District 2 Councilman Jalen McKee Rodriguez has given us a decent idea where to look next.
He has proposed giving renters financial assistance for pet deposits for those “who foster or adopt from San Antonio’s ACS or partnering shelters.” Think about it.
Given Animal Care Service’s poor record of classifying and releasing animals, and that some apartment operators will see this as a freebie, wherever much of this assistance goes is where we’re more likely to see incidences.
We’ve lived in complexes where Dobermans, Pits, Rotts, et al were allowed and felt safer than where these dollars will flow.
One of these days, maybe council (District 1’s Sukh Kaur, District 4’s Adriana Rocha Garcia, District 5’s Teri Castillo and District 6’s Melissa Cabello Havrda signed on in support) will realize you can’t simply throw $ at problems and expect they get solved.
Dignowity Hill volunteer for San Antonio’s Animal Care Vanessa Acosta (featured in this story) seems to get it.
